Description

This Chocolate Buttercream Frosting combines unsalted butter, rich cocoa powder, and a touch of vanilla for an irresistible treat perfect for cakes or cupcakes. Its creamy texture and rich flavor make it a must-try for any dessert lover looking for an easy, homemade delight.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 20 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup dutch process cocoa powder
  • 3 to 5 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/16 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Beat the butter on medium speed using a mixer for 2–3 minutes until creamy. Scrape the bowl sides as needed.
  2. Add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder; mix on low speed until blended. Scrape down the sides again. Pour in the heavy cream, vanilla, and salt; mix on low until combined.
  3. Increase to high speed and beat for 30–60 seconds until lightened in color and very creamy. Adjust consistency with more powdered sugar for thickness or extra cream for a thinner texture. Taste and tweak with salt if necessary.

Notes

Ensure the butter is at room temperature for easier mixing.
Adjust cocoa powder and sugar to achieve desired flavor and texture.
For a richer taste, consider adding a hint of espresso powder.
