Description

These M&M Sugar Cookies are a delightful treat with their chewy texture and burst of chocolate flavor, made easy with simple ingredients like butter, sugar, and mini M&M’s. Perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at cool room temperature
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups mini m&m’s, plus more for pressing on top*
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar, for rolling cookies

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, salt, and baking powder together. Set this mixture aside.
  3. In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter at medium speed for 1 minute.
  4. Add 1 ¾ cups of granulated sugar to the butter and continue mixing until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  5. Scrape down the bowl with a spatula and then add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, mixing until well incorporated.
  6. With the mixer off, add the dry ingredients to the bowl and mix on low speed until just combined.
  7. Gently fold in the mini M&M’s using a spatula, being careful not to overmix.
  8. Place the ⅓ cup of sugar in a small bowl. Form the dough into balls, approximately 2 tablespoons each, and roll in the sugar until fully coated.
  9. Arrange the cookie balls on the prepared baking sheet, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  10. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the cookies crack on the surface; they should be soft in the center and slightly set around the edges.
  11. Remove from the oven and gently press additional M&M’s on top for decoration. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack.

Notes

For best results, use cool room temperature butter for a fluffy texture.
Don’t overbake the cookies to ensure they remain soft and chewy.
Experiment with different M&M colors for festive occasions.
