- 2 russet potatoes peeled and diced
- 2 cups ham diced
- 2 tablespoons onion powder
- 1 teaspoon celery seed
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic

- 2 bay leaves
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme plus extra for garnish
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 8 cups water
- 1 tablespoon better than bouillon chicken flavored (or more to taste)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the split peas and check for any stones.
- Add all ingredients to the slow cooker.
- Cook on low for 8+ hours or on high for 6 hours.
- Once the peas, carrots, and potatoes are tender and the soup is at your desired consistency, it's ready to serve.
- Remove the bay leaves and thyme stems before serving.
- Serve hot, optionally garnished with extra ham and crunchy bread.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, omit the ham and use vegetable broth instead of chicken bouillon.
