Description

Bourbon Chicken features juicy chicken pieces cooked in a mouthwatering bourbon sauce enriched with garlic and ginger. This recipe is easy to prepare, making it a fantastic choice for a quick dinner or a family meal. Serve over steamed rice or noodles for an extra treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless chicken breast cut into bite-sized chunks
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh minced ginger
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil or vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup bourbon or apple juice as a substitute
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • for garnish: chopped scallions/green onions, spicy chili flakes

Instructions

  1. Heat sesame oil in a wok or pan over medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently, until the chicken is golden brown.
  2. Introduce minced garlic and ginger, stirring for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together soy sauce, bourbon, brown sugar, vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Pour this mixture into the pan and reduce heat. Simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the alcohol to cook off and the chicken to fully cook through.
  4. Mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl. Incorporate this mixture into the pan, cooking for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens to your liking.
  5. Garnish before serving. This dish pairs beautifully with steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, substitute bourbon with apple juice.
Adjust the level of red pepper flakes to control the heat.
Rice or noodles make excellent bases for this dish.
