Description

Easter Greek Cookies – Koulourakia are a delightful treat featuring a blend of butter, sugar, and orange juice. These homemade cookies are easy to make and will bring joy to any gathering, making them a perfect addition to your holiday celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • zest of 1 orange
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking ammonia or baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg beaten
  • ⅓ cup milk


Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine flour, salt, baking powder, and baking ammonia or baking soda.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the butter using beaters. Gradually add sugar and then orange zest.
  3. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, alternating with the orange juice. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the flour to form a soft, pliable dough.
  5. Cover the dough and chill for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  7. Shape the dough as desired, referring to the Notes for shape options.
  8. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the cookies 2 inches apart.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk the egg and milk together. Brush the mixture over the cookies and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
  10. Bake in the hot oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes
